Getting Started Raiding

Before Raiding

Required

Go to the tunnel in East Commonlands and buy discs for all of your melee if you haven't already.

Go to Thurgadin and buy the pet toys clicky for your mages, necros, and beastlords.  This click can actually be used from Level 1.

Stun proc augs in every aug slot for warriors.

Recommended, but not required

Skill up alchemy for heal pots.  It is much cheaper to make your own than to buy from the vendor.  While heal pots aren't required, they do help.

Put heal proc augs in all weapons for melees.  Again, not required, but it helps keep your melee alive.

Farm cleric clicky legs in Kael.  Go post up in Arena and afk for a few days.

Farm Avatar weapons.  Post up in OW ST and farm the trash mobs for the pieces to make Avatar weapons.  These weapons will not only be a step up from splinter weapons, but also proc avatar for your melees which is a huge dps boost.

Early Targets

There is an entire guide that covers the "easy" targets.  Save all of your Sunlight Shards.  Pro Tip: Offer to trade Sunlight Shards to other players for Humming Epidotes at a 1 to 3 or higher ratio.  Most players will gladly jump on that deal and you will get more humming epidotes to gear your raid with.

Raiding at 60.

Recommended first targets in order, but feel free to jump around.  The intent behind this path is to learn and build on what you’ve learned.  Once you master these mechanics, it will set you up for success for more content.

Vindi in Kael - Why?  This is one of the most basic fights we’ve got.  Vindi does not have an AE, just ramp and a single target proc on tank.  The purpose of this fight is to get your rot setup and fine tune your debuffs and dps INIs.  This fight will also teach you aggro control on your DPS.  If you see a dps getting too high on the chart, learn to pause them on the fly or utilize an aggro reduction method (if the class has one).  Other benefit - Vindi loot is almost all tank focused.

Yael in The Hole - Why? He does an AE stun, so this will allow you to fine tune your tank spam heals and start to fine tune your group heal thresholds.  He does a single target DT.  Getting this event setup if you haven’t already for the fear minis is essential as you will see it again on multiple more fights.

Naggy in SolB - Why? This will be your first real AE mob, but you’ll be able to pre-aggro and pre-debuff.  You can get everyone positioned before engage.  This fight is great practice for positioning raids and helps you fine tune your group heals.  The rot you used on Vindi also gets used here.

Vox in Permafrost - Why? Still permarooted, but does an AE stun.  The spam heals you practiced on Yael will get put to the test here and the group heals you’ve been working on will be tested as well.

Lodizal in Iceclad - Why? Add practice.  Lodizal spawns 2 adds every 25%, so you will get practice picking up adds

Progression Path

If you have handled Naggy/Vox, make sure to do Talendor, Sev, and Gore.  Some weapons better than splinter + haste items will help improve your melee.

If you have handled all of those dragons, do all of the remaining Tier 1 Velious Targets (Recommend hitting Eashen and Velk while in zone for the other targets).  Convert those wyrmstones into Velious Epidotes and buy your tank a new wrist.

Now, we want to unlock the ability to request Sky instances.  Go kill Inny for Sky instance request ability and Maestro for shard and chance at lute.  Go kill CT to complete the task.

Plane of Sky - Clear Sky.  Pass out weapons as you get them.  Pass out tank, cleric/priest, and caster gear as you get it.  Keep the melee gear.  Once you complete your clear, go sell back the melee gear for epidotes and buy your tank everything except wrists.  Wrists you should be buying Velious gear because of the efficiency in costs.  As you start accruing weapons, you can melt them down to make exactly what you want/need.

Tier 2 Velious - Start working on Tier 2 Velious.  We're putting this ahead of VP purely to get more Velious currency and Velious spell stones.

Veeshan's Peak - Start working on VP.  Immediately after your first clear on regular, start doing hard mode.  Get those class items going.  You can melt down in a 2:1 both weapons and augs.  Use some of the less essential augs like caster head aug to create augs for your tanks.

Gearing recommendations

Tanks: Tanks should always be the first toons you gear.

Clerics/Priests: Second most important class to gear is clerics, but don't forget to show your shamans and druids some love.

Melee: Haste item (36%+) and upgraded weapons from splinter gear will get your melee going.  The rest of their gear can wait.

Casters: Casters benefit more from gear upgrades than melee.

Velious Spells

The very first Velious spell you should be buying is Lcea's.  Having AE mana regen song frees up a song slot on every single other bard.  No other spell will give you as large a boost as this.  There are 7 T1 Velious targets and you will need 8.  Kill Eashen when you kill Ikiatar.
